Personal Aside: Trivia Quiz Answers and More.

Trivia.

Answer to the last trivia quiz: Demosthenes in 330 B. C. defending his honor for having received a crown for opposing Philip of Macedon who had conquered Athens and made it a nation state…a crown challenged by Aeschines of the Macedonian party who said it was wrong to award a lie being told and placed in Athenian archives. By not returning the crown and attempting to defend himself, Demosthenes took his life in his hands in a hostile environment. He made the case in what has been called the greatest oration by the greatest orator in the world. Congratulations to Chuck Johanns who got it right; better luck next time to Pat Hickey (Cicero), Frank Nofsinger (Socrates) and Jesse Taylor who decided to spoof us and suggest it was either King Darius or Pat Hickey.

Here’s what should be an easy one, particularly for old timers. It’s a talk made during the Cold War. Again, no search engines. Tell me who said it.

“There is no such thing as living without a cross. We are free only to choose between crosses. Will it be the cross of Christ which redeems us from our sins or will it be the double-cross, the swastika, the hammer and sickle, the fasces?”
