Now for the Rest of You Who Want to Play

The subject switches to devastating replies. Here’s an easy one. In an address in the House of Commons, Gladstone said to Disraeli (I paraphrase), “Sir, you will likely die either of hanging or from a loathsome social disease.”

Disraeli’s devastating reply?

  1. Disraeli replied, "That all depends upon whether I embrace your
    principals or your mistress".

  2. Actually, I believe the reply was "That depends, sir, on whether I embrace your principles, or your mistress."
