Soo.

Judging by the time notation in response, the correspondent Soo won the latest Terry Przybylski presidential trivia contest followed closely by WPD. The question was: who was the only southerner to serve as president between the post Civil War and the election of Lyndon Johnson? The answer: Woodrow Wilson, born in Virginia who also spent some time practicing law in Augusta, Georgia. True, he was elected president after having been governor of New Jersey but his roots were southern. And not particularly enlightened in civil rights, either as WPD relates in Reader’s Response.

Lovie’s Leather.

Excuse this senior citizens’s faltering response to the fact that Lovie’s Leather also had the answer right to this question: With Minnesota having gone the longest in the nation without voting for a Republican president, who was the president it supported? Answer: Richard Nixon over George McGovern in 1972. Sorry, Lovie.

Latest Terry Trivia.

This’ll be somewhat easier than the past ones, I think. In 2008 there will be no incumbent president or vice president running on either party’s national ticket. When was the last time that happened?

  1. With Ike and Stevenson.

Other than being responsible for Earl Warren, Ike is an under-appreciated President.

  2. Some time ago you wrote that Fitzgerald was backing off a full investigation of Mayor Daley's Administration at the request of higher ups. I doubted you, but given the recent news of U.S. Attorney General Alberto Gonzales' role in the firing of eight U.S Attorneys, you just may have been right.

  3. In 1952, Truman's VP ran for the democratic nomination and lost... So I am going to say 1928... Hoover v Smith.
